Waltz– 21st December 2015
Well over 20 seniors tried in
vain to play a Waltz today but the blustery wind and the rain defeated
everyone. To play six holes was an achievement. Your vice captain nevertheless
managed to keep the ball under the wind at all times, and our doughty fund
raiser, Richard Hall, managed 9 points on the first 4 holes, something he
admitted he rarely does in ideal conditions.
Today everyone was made aware
that the handicap secretary has reviewed the club handicaps of every Senior. This
was carried out in conjunction with the Senior’s Handicap Secretary, Frank
Martin. Many of you will have had increases. Please check your club handicap on
the computer or ask Liam if you are not sure. At the same time, Andy Beale has
taken over the domestic handicaps. Andy revised the domestics prior to the
revised club handicaps being published which meant he had to check them all
again whilst burning the midnight oil (literally).
However, with effect from the
1st January 2016, domestic cuts will be applied for winners and
runners-up but will only apply for 2 weeks instead of the 4 weeks which has
been the rule hitherto. In order to get to a level playing field , everyone
will play off their club handicaps from January 1st until a domestic
cut is applied.
The monthly raffle for one
litre of Cognac
has been a success, so much so that this month there will be a second prize.
The draw will be at 9 o’clock on Wednesday morning and play in the two ball
hassle. Be there to get your prize.
You will have seen that
Gareth Jones, who was Senior Captain in 1998, has passed away. Gareth was a
fine chap and a good friend of Vic Gane for many years. Gareth was a regular
player in the Seniors when I first joined the club. He will be missed.
