Roll-Up 25th September
Canadian Greensomes
With a tricky Match against Long Sutton to play, numbers were always going to be low, but we still had a healthy 22 play the main format, with Tom & Richard playing Individuals.
Hot favourites were obviously Bob W & Norman...until we saw them painfully negotiate the first. Both hit trees on left but were thrown clear out onto fairway. Norman played his 2nd & hit hedge on right, but bounced back onto the Fairway again. Bob hit a great shot keeping it 5 foot above the ground, but unfortunately there was a 7 foot hedge in the way...so he trundled back and had to play Normans 2nd rebound...so they started with Zero. Good recovery on 2nd Hole to make Birdy. Did same on 5th and 8th so gradually recovered.
Alan Davis and Myself were out with Delightful Des and had a great little scrap. We sneaked ahead by birdying 1st and 5th, but Des kept Phil steady with encouraging comments. We lost 2 points on them on the 10th as Phil chipped close giving Des a nice Putt for the only Par on that hole all day. Des nearly drove the 17th and chipped to within 5 feet. Phil putted it to within 9 feet. Des putted again and got it to 2 feet, which Phil sunk for a single point.
It's amazing that their 32 points came so close to winning some cash.
As we passed the Match, both Captain and Bob Barrow's Team were behind..but that was only the 6th hole so hopefully they will rebound.
..and they did to win 4-2.
