Do you do hair ?- need a quick trim before jetting off to South AFRICA ?

Wow it's busy up there:

  • New Car Park built at Entrance on Practice Ground
  • Looks like work about to start at rear of Clubhouse  to build the 32 Luxury Apartments
  • New Vehicle Tracks being made across 1st, 5th, 17th, alongside 16th  - to assist getting Buggies from Machinery Sheds to Clubhouse and avoid horrible muddy parts that usually form over a wet winter. Also twixt 10th and 9th through the hedge.

..and have you seen this one, after new holes come back into play, old 12,13,14 have 20 Holiday Cottages ?

This is called a Masterplan - shows 6 or 7 areas in Mauve that  are "available" ..click on image to enlarge and work out what is where.

Please be aware that a robot mower will be operating on the 2nd and 3rd holes over the next week or so. It will be cutting both fairways and rough areas during this time.

The mower is designed to detect golfers and avoid them. However, there is still a small chance it may come into contact with you at a very low speed.

We kindly ask that you remain alert when playing these holes and give the mower space to operate safely.

There is a Safety alert from the suppliers that some golf trolleys operate on the same frequency as the mowers and GPS positioning can be corrupted.  If you see a mower heading directly towards you, press the blue button on your remote, place it on the grass, then step aside.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

 Kind Regards,

Nate Bertinelli

Any Cobblers out there ?

Danny, Johnny, Bobby - all built their empires at the Clark's Shoe Factory - Brand new Museum opening out in Street featuring 200 Years of Clark's Shoes.  They are looking for anecdotes and pics / stories for employees.

Many thanks to everyone who travelled to Axe Cliff today for a very windy return leg of our friendly.  It was very blustery up on top of the cliffs but we all stayed dry and a good time was had by all with a very friendly Axe Cliff.  There were 4 members of our team that had not played Axe Cliff before and so with some cross fairways and a fair amount of blind holes it was a steep learning curve.  The food was a lovely carvery followed by Cheesecake and cream.  Kev Barry won the nearest the pin on 11 and donated it to the Seniors Captains raffle which will take place in the morning.  The score for the day was a win to the Home team 5-1  and an overall win over both legs also to Axe Cliff winning 7-5.  Actual scores and handicaps attached

It's our Annual 'Battle of Britain' Comp

where we raise funds for the RAFA

As Usual Sir Clive Fisk will be going that extra mile, as he will probably be out for the Winter after Surgery.

> I shall be aiming to raise a few ££££’s  for the RAF Benevolent Fund this Friday in the Battle of Britain Trophy  comp.
> As you all know, I have a penchant for dressing up so Friday will be another opportunity!
> It won’t be Pikey this time, a bit more respectable.
> Not sure how much golf I’ll be able to play for the rest of the year and would like this to be a good fundraising event.
> If you can support the RAF fund  with a pledge of a donation please post a 👍with an amount on the blog or email me at: me@clivefisk.com

Long Sutton Match

Gents. Please see attached the results sheet for today’s Friendly against Long Sutton which we won 4-2. Good game with the most hideous storms going all around us but they did not interfere with our matches. Well done to all who played today. Great food too.At the bottom is also the overall score over both legs.

Update on Senior hit by Golf Ball.

Hi all, in answer to Questions,  yes home ok after a few hours at Chard Hospital I have a lovely lump on the side of my head and a bit of Tinnitus. I expect I will have a nice bruise later. Still nobody is to blame. Just the risk when you play golf.

Thanks all for thinking of me.

Cheers

Great attitude - much respect.

After massive rainfall on Sunday, which closed the Course - it was lush green everywhere as grass had its last flourish of the Year.

The last 4 in Summer KO met to fight for the Cup and I believe Danny & JW had to give Gordon & David 9 Shots.

Never much in it but a great example of pairs Matchplay. We passed them on 14th - it was so quiet we could hear Jim Lauchlan shouting at us to speed up from 3 holes behind.

CST 14th Green

Gordon & David were 1 Up..and managed to maintain that advantage to the very end.

Well done to all that entered - see full table on Club Website under Knockout Competitions.

We were out with Billy & Bob in 4BBB, Billy Teed off on 4th and screamed in anguish as it headed right into very first big tree. Lots of noise and it then emerged 5 seconds later on Ladies Tee. He played a nice 2nd, but bounced just past cross ditch and headed for hedge once again.  Others failed to find it but I went 10 yards further and found his distinctive Wilson in bound and playable - which he then played on to bag a 5 for 3.

He did same on 6th, off white tees and hooked into trees on left with loud thud . I then saw this flash of white descend from on high and land in front of yellow tee-box.

His biggest escape was 13th when he & Bob were in Bunker - with Billy being plugged in vertical face,  Bob failed to escape  to took over as rake-man - but from an awkward stance, he smashed it vertically out ( see Picture) onto Green and managed another 2 points.

Look at angle of ball from face of bunker

Looks like Sir Clive & Mark were the only Team to break  40 and Clive had the temerity to score the only "2".

Friday 5th September 2025

Captain began with an announcement about one of our most popular Members, Sir Clive Fisk.

Clive was putting on a very brave face, saying "Why not Me ? " and is confident he will be able to resume golf after surgery and is grateful to other Seniors for talking to him and removing some of the Myths.

Most of you know that I have been diagnosed with a rare form of bladder cancer. One that chemotherapy or radiotherapy will not cure.

The “Gold” standard,  that in most cases cures, requires the complete removal of the bladder, prostate and lymph nodes.

Just waiting for an appointment to confirm surgery which hopefully will be soon.

All done by robotic surgery in Exeter.

Feeling very positive about it and looking forward to the “life changing and life saving” procedure. When told and asked, “did I have any questions”?  I can’t tell you what I asked!

If you want to know anything about the early signs of bladder cancer, email me on: me@clivefisk.com Thanks for all your supporting best wishes! It really does help!

 Clive
