As we await news of Friday Golf, we are reminded of how simple life was in 1963.Captain's Charity Day
Unclaimed Raffle Prizes - See Captain
I would like to thank everybody who took part in yesterdays
event and a special thank you to all those that helped set up on Tuesday late
afternoon, through the day and into the early evening to take it all down again
so there was no trace before we left. The unconfirmed (by the Treasurer) total
raised by yesterday’s event was in the region of £2,788. Thank you all so
much, I am a bit speechless, which most of you will think should be
celebrated. THANKYOU
[17/07, 15:32] Graham Lloyd: Well done Sir
[17/07, 15:35] Andy Rowland: It was a great day Keith, you
can start to relax nowπ️♂️
[17/07, 15:50] James Siabi: A great day captain. ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»
[17/07, 16:00] Simon Tuck : Wish I could have been
there, see you soon skipper
[17/07, 16:03] John Baker: A very good day…. Everyone I
spoke to said they enjoyed it and I was glad to play a small part. I think your
year as captain has been a great success and something you should be very proud
of ππ
Lovely to see Alan Chance up there after recent battles, helping at Starters Hut.
Even more of a surprise was Mike Light. He certainly was "light" and I found out he has not played for 6 Months. A nasty great lump had grown in the small of his back. After a long series of tests , he whispered "It wasn't Cancer" ..as if it was a word we never use in the Seniors..I wish....but it was an unidentified parasite growing and consuming him from the inside. Recent surgery has removed and killed it but the big hole has to be dressed and mopped daily. The lump had a police escort up to the Department of Forensic Tropical Disease in London for research and identification. In his usual casual manner, Mike said "The Family thought I was a Gonner"

It was a morose Captain as James T Lauchlan recorded the results at a scorching hot Came Down Golf Course on the hills overlooking Weymouth.
He knew his own result, of course as he & James- despite getting 21 shots..lost 2 &1
Even Rob Shelley was getting a shot this time, but not enough as he and JB lost by the same score.
Was the record stuck ?- big surprise as the ultra competitive Kitchen Garden Team became 3rd team in succession to shake hands on the 17th.
A dark-brown Mugridge and pale white Leigh finally managed a point - but start sheet looks a little confusing as all 4 seemed to be getting shots.
Alas poor Shorrocks & Tony Peterson brought some cheer as they were stars of the day , winning 3 & 2.
So, 20 Players sat sipping ice-cold Guinness Zero as they gazed towards the 18th Tee, then 17th and could just about make out 16th was also empty. Could they "Nick" the final game and make it a Draw -Nope as they were all sitting around the pond on 14th having shook hands on a 6&4 loss.
Jim Reports :- Sadly the result didn't mirror the home game but still cst managed to win 2 matches.my thanks to every player who suffered that heat today.j siabi was closest to the pin and donated bottle to charity day raffle.
final score 4-2 loss.
Ace Reporter David Asquith took up the offer to visit the new holes across the road from 10th and he commented "I was most impressed"
I took on the tour with Dave today. I have to say we were
all very impressed. Still planning on opening this time next year, but will
then revert to the old 18 holes for the winter. I will send in 3 emails as the
files are quite large
Old 8th – large undulating green with a bunker in
front, properly lined
Old 9th
Scary looking tee shot with a bunker on the front left, a
deep swale behind it and a pond to the left. And the green is an upturned
saucer
Old 10th
Green not constructed yet but this is the large tee box
(back where the white tees used to be). It will be an uphill dog-leg par 5 and
a real challenge.

Thanks David, excellent oversight. For 4 Years now we've heard 5,000 Trucks drive down past 7th and depositing their loads of inert topsoil.
Consensus from 'those that know' is that we'll maybe start using them in 2027 as all the drainage, sprinkling, greens, signage, cart tracks, bunkers , measurements, publicity, cards, re-numbering, closing of 12 & 13th takes place. Probably need a full growing & mowing season after last trucks move out.Wed 9th July 2025
There
is an opportunity to visit the site of the 3 new holes and have a tour of the
site with the Course Manager David King and ask any questions regarding the
construction.
This
will give an in depth look at the sites development and final vision for the 3
new holes.
Dates
will be 9th of July at 2.30pm and 11th of July at 4.30pm.
Site
tours will be weather permitting.
Meeting
point will be the Greenkeepers facility, please walk to site as parking is very
limited.

Please see attached yesterday’s results sheet from
Stover. I think most of us agree, a great course in good condition, good
food, a little bit slow, but 44 Seniors playing 4 Balls, in realistic terms, to
be expected. On the whole a good day had by the majority.
TERRY put rest of field in the shade..
All over Stover
Note Stover results are entered on IG and changed quite a few Handicaps.
Looks like Keefunt picked a fine day Over at Stover
( sorry I could not be with you ( at Musgrove again JKP)
Welcome to our new General Manager Honor Smith who joined us on Monday. Honor has worked in Hospitality her whole career and is passionate about people, and great customer service. She has 3 sons, one of which is part of the Junior section at the club , so she has spent a lot of time in and around CST. She is thrilled to now be part of our fantastic team and is looking forward to meeting members and visitors over the coming weeks and continuing to lead and improve Cricket St Thomas Golf Club and what we offer to our members and visitors over the coming years. We are delighted to have her onboard.
We
also wish farewell (not fully) to the departing General Manager Alex Hill who
has been working at CST since 2014 and has been the GM at the club since
January 2020. He is part of the family here at the club, (literally and
figuratively) and has been a big part of many of the positive changes we have
seen over the last 10 years. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the
club.
Alex
isn’t cutting ties completely, he has made the decision to go travelling and
explore the world for the foreseeable future and will be continuing in a
part-time (remote) Club Secretary role assisting Honor and her team with
administration, membership and accounts tasks. You’ll still be hearing from him
when your membership renewal is due for payment!!!
Alex’s
last day on-site will be Friday 25th July - if anybody wants to stop by and
wish him luck on his travels, please feel free to do so.
We
hope you will join us in wishing both Honor and Alex the best of luck in their
new roles.
Blast from the Past..
