Early on Parade in the Seniors Summer KO 4BBB were Steve Southgate and Gordon Brent, tangling with Tim Purrett and John Pearce.  Gordon was giving the shots, with Pearce 12, Purrett 7 and Southgate 1.  Off to a steady start with nothing in it, P & P were 1 up at the 1/2 way  point..but gradually Steve & Gordon steadied the ship and started hitting some great shots. They were Dormie 2 by the 16th and a half on 17th gave them the win by 2 & 1.

Summer KO is progressing to plan and some interesting games set up for the 2nd Round.

Just 6 more days to complete Round 1 or James will pick a winner.

Dowell/Hartley versus Gingell/ Hildred looks tasty

Hilson/ Branchflower have already dispatched  reigning champions Bargery/Spencer-Farr

Dowell and Evans strike Bronze at Stockwood Vale 41 points 3rd placed visitors

Not bad given we play the easiest course in the world

The 107 slope is the gift that just keeps giving 😂😂

Sir Clive has been forgiven. the £40 Bottle of Champagne has ended up in the Raffle anyway, thanks to the generosity of Chris Andrews for his winning score on Mates Day...which Clive had sponsored...strange how things work out.

Read posts below if this makes no sense to you...

All,

I called in to see Dickie on Thursday and also bumped into Lyndsey in Tescos Saturday morning. Both are unable to play golf currently and a contact or best wishes from the Seniors would cheer them up I’m sure.

Lyndsey said my submissions to the blog although not enjoyed by everybody, made him laugh and were quite uplifting!

I’m going to put the photo below on the blog with a note that I had seen him and hope James you will not view it as requiring a STRIKE!

Best wishes intended

Clive

Just In- Note from Buckingham Palace - After May 6th King Charles has decreed that anyone flying the Union Flag  with the  St Patrick's Cross in ascendancy over The Saltire of St Andrew on the Hoist Side - will be on the next flight to Rawanda.  Sir Clive is fined 1 bottle of Wine to be added to the May Raffle Prizes....

Dickie seen committing the ultimate conversational faux pas of getting your face-mask hooked onto your hearing aid..in defence he said " I'm all fingers and thumbs"....

With 30 away at The Challenge Cup  ( Including 3 Paul Englands) , we were a little surprised when 20 Rolled up Today for a 1,2,3 Stableford. A Straw Poll on WhatsApp indicated maybe 8 would attend, so it shows you can't trust a Computer.

Not a Clue about the results as scores of 65 to 70 came in, but with a few still out playing. We were honoured with Bert Robinson joining us as there were no Club Buggies so Ted & co could not play. We added Bert to CST Seniors group so he could pick up more results for his weekly posting in the Chard & Ilminster.

Early rain cleared away and we had a lovely day, maybe a bit opf a breeze - and weather looks good into next week.

'Lucky Laughlan' Launces his new Charity Draw , results below.

Goodbye to Nobby

T’was nigh 200 years ago that Charles Dickens wrote about a Tale of Two Cities…   well yesterday over 100 people squeezed into Yeovil Crematorium to hear The Tale of 2 Nobbies !

Fully expecting to hear about a fairly sad and lonely existence of a Man in failing health and limited means……

….we heard about a ‘Superdad’ who worked hard in the toughest of environments, splashed the cash and responsible for 2 full rows of mourners at the gathering.

Nobby, Born in 1951 was one of 4 Children – Brian/Margaret/Leslie (Nobby) & Angela.  Born in Chard and lived locally all his life ( well sort of !).  Married to Jill and had 2 Children Ben & Karen – who then produced a healthy pack of Grandchildren and I think Great-Grandchildren.

Worked at Horlicks Factory and then for Balfour Beatty on Motorway Constructions. He was involved in the building The Ilminster Bypass and his pride and joy was the Hindhead Tunnel Project.  The Picture shows Nobby in his prime, hard-drinking, muscular , bejewelled and tanned.

Daughter Karen strode to the pedestal and told us the story of her Dad , whom she obviously adored as she grew up. Nobby was away much of the time as wherever he was working, he stayed to finish the job, living in on-site caravans. The Family joined him on many occasions and loved the novelty of the itinerant lifestyle as he spoiled them rotten…Whenever back home he was very generous , handing them £20 notes with the usual ‘don’t tell your Mum’ conditional…

In Karen’s words, nothing shocked the Family as Nobby told them of his latest exploits – such as the time that Nobby & a Colleague were driving a crane when the brakes caught fire. They did not panic, simply ‘Parked & Peed’ and the crisis was over.

Karen added, “ I haven’t lost just my Dad, I ‘ve lost my Hero “

Nobby enjoyed a typical Somerset village life and the Pubs. On one outing to the IOW – After The Coach was fully loaded and back on the Ferry – they noticed 1 passenger missing – It was Nobby  - who was spending the night behind bars, courtesy of the local Constabulary !

How’s that for a contrast  to the Nobby we all know and scarcely a mention of any previous Family Life in the years that we knew him.

Huge attendance, swelled by the golfing community – led by Steve,  Jacqui & Alex Hill- who had more or less ‘adopted ‘ him up at CST – The Pro Shop, Nick George; Colin Ireland; Barry Singleton; Mick Aldridge; Ted Bryden; Phil Bowditch; Mike Bowling; Carole & Quinny; Keith & Fran; Nick & Nikki Clarke; Mike King; John Pearce; Mark Cording; Dave Mugridge; John Sweet; Bryan Frost ( and Lady); Ian Fielder; Phantom Pro; Eric Williams; Roger Davis; Paul England; Dickie Hall; Martin Leigh; Andy Rowland; Jim Lauchlan; Ian Thomas; Ken Trott; Mike Hone; Bob White; Bill Hilson..and I’m sure others that will add their names later…I know Frank Martin and a few of his guests over in Portugal would have loved to have attended, so please take this as their apology. Bim also sent his apologies .

Karen had told us that Nobby had requested his favourite 2 Joke Books were placed alongside him in the elegant oak coffin..but then I thought….you do know what happens at a Cremation don’t you ?

Unfortunately I was unable to join the wake at CST as I was heading East for a 14:30 Cremation in Weymouth !

And that was it, Nobby is no more !

I reckon even if I jump...Frank Martin would be waiting at the bottom with  something to cushion my fall...as he has been for so many years........Love you Frankie !
