Tri Match - CST / Lyme Regis / Sidmouth

Thursday 8th December

Beautiful sunny, still yet cold day with stunning views over Lyme Bay and the Isle of Portland, for the first round of the Tri Series between CST, Lyme Regis and our hosts today Sidmouth.   CST were invited by Bob Sheperd of Lyme Regis whose idea this annual 3 team event was, we were invited to replace Axcliffe and your committee jumped at the chance.

Our 8 man team averaged 30.3 stableford points and this put us in second place behind the home team by 29 points and 15 points ahead of Lyme Regis.
Special mention to David Asquith and Jim Lauchlan for top scoring with 34 points.   It was pick and place throughout the course including the rough, but the greens were bumpy and as always very tricky to read.    Two other major achievements were Ian Thomas walking a golf course with a tough terrain and James Siabi struggling on after further damaging his cut finger on the first hole.    The three leg competition is a simple cumulative stableford score of all eight players with the trophy going to the best total.

Everyone agreed a good and fair format without the pressure of match play.   The next leg is on the 10th January at Lyme.   Perhaps we need to roll out some of our Sombrero owning gun slingers to boost our chances but of course we still have the home leg to come.

Perhaps the seniors committee could look at a similar format with other neighboring clubs for next winter as we enjoyed a great days competitive but friendly golf, plus Ham Egg and Chips all for £9.00.    It would allow us to spread the opportunity to more members of the section.

Hi guys,

Unfortunately we have just had a phone call from Tony Stenhouse’s Family, unfortunately he has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and has been given maximum 6 weeks to live.

Tony has asked if could let the seniors section know, so might be something to put on the blog? Or if could just pass on the message to anyone who you feel should know.

Thank you.

Alex

Christmas Card Maybe ?

Treasurer warning...

Good morning,

Looking at yesterdays results it is surprising that so many Seniors played without paying their subs.

9 Entrants played, 4 of them won money. Treasurer / Captain usually agree a grace period before acting, so please drop off your £3.00 in Seniors Mail Box in locker Room ( envelope with name please) or hand in at Roll-Up and we will onpass.  The 2023 booklets of our Year Planner will be out soon, just waiting for Avalon to confirm some dates.

.

JKP can you put something on the blog that from now subs must be paid to be able to win money.

 regards

Keith

As of today we are playing off the Blue Course so check your playing handicap when entering any competition. It may be different to what is was off the Yellow course.  At the moment there are no blue tee markers so the course is marked by the yellow ones.

A Man alone with his thoughts....

Disappointment for The Italian Team...as they missed rule 49.3.3 insisting that Hole 3 was a Par 4 on The Ladies Score card and could not be used as a compulsory Par 3 that each player must have credited as a drive....Jim detailed the exact clause that was implicit on the rule sheet but not necessarily fully delineated therein...
