 2.  The Halfway Hut also needs cakes that can be given to Competitors on the Day, normally for a small Charity Donation.

Remember - there is no Roll-Up on Wednesday

With the threat of showers, 31 Seniors Rolled-Up for a Discard ...and guess what it stayed dry until just passed 13:00 - but unfortunately The Captain & a strong Team in The Somerset Bowl were only halfway around the Course.

Captain Reports:-

We got slightly soggy, some more than others - the ones that won early could walk in.

Match result 5 - 0 to the Good Guys

3 relatively comfortable wins (4&3, 4&2, 3&1), one closer (2 &1) and Jim Lauchlan & Roger Hinds won after 20 holes,

Apologies if 'Flipping' offends anyone...

Brean or Farrington Park next, to be played by 17 July

Many thanks to my Team and special mention for Keith Hunt - who Rolled-Up at 08:30 for a discard and suddenly found out he was playing in The Match - Comms Fooba I guess - but took it well and played his part.

 Dave

Ken Putts for a 5 on 10th ..which today is worth 4 Points as a Par 5...was this the Putt that edged them towards the winning score ?

Ray on Mike on 12th - Course is in fine condition everywhere you look.....well not down there, obviously Mike !

International Traveller John Sweet back from a Wedding in Cyprus.
11Lbs Lighter; 4 shades darker and £6,472 poorer - Thanks Granddad !

Wednesday 25th May 2022

With 23 of our more competitive golfers away at Knighton Heath, Captain had smartly reduced Roll-Up slots back to the Club.

In the event 5 Earlies rolled up to play an Individual.

JKP arrived a bit late for 2nd Roll-Up, so early sheet was not picked up or submitted to Pro Shop ( apol)..Uncertain if JKP could finish round ( phone call) - so other 3 joined him for a bit of fun in 4BBB Matchplay. Barrow / Trott versus   Hilson/Pearce.

Expected shops seemed to miss us apart from one very fine dusting,   Very competitive 4BBB with farmer Bob playing out of his skin, especially  the back 9.The mathematics were against Bob as he had 15 shots, but with Billy's 33 - there was never a hole where Bob wasn't conceding a shot.  Billy was smashing his 3 wood off the Tee farther than any one else was driving ..and kept doing it most of the round.  Bob had lots of par Holes, but either Bill or JKP was there to, claim a shot of 2. JKP chipped for a 2 on the 2nd , which didn't help Bob !

On 1st Hole, JKP was playing 3 and still short of the corner - so asked Bob to step aside as he attempted the corner, over the top of the  Club Buggy. Ball hit the hedge, bounced back through the passenger opening and exited the drivers opening...so luckily Bob was not seated inside.

It was a fun game with barely as shot in it.Bob thought he'd squared it on 18th, but Bill putted in for a 5, net 3 equaling Bob's Par once again...

Nice to see Lyndsey Gage up in the Clubhouse after Keyhole Surgery on his knee the previous day.

Also met the new Club Professional, Mr David Partridge who was busy 'moving-in' and will soon be offering his services. An Experienced Pro but after a few years of Tiger-Woods type back Surgery and then a battle with the Big-C - mainly concentrates on his duties as a Club Professional and seems like a nice guy.

Take care when marking cards. Ensure that the Competition Name Players name (no nick names), The Date, Correct Handicap Index, Players signature, Markers signature (initials will do) and the correct GROSS scores are all there. Failure to do so will end up with a Disqualification.

Monday 16th May

Well done to Bob Barrow who got his two on the 5th.

Friday 13th May

Wednesday 11th May

Rock steady Bob & Chris - but with the lowest handicap allowance  had to work hard for every point

Jim not a happy bunny..despite sinking one of the only 2 Birdies on 11th hole..and packing all his wet-weather gear away for the summer ..he had to unzip his jacket for each drive, then quickly close it again but the trousers were lightweight and drenched..but he stuck it out until the end.

 Challenge Cup at Sherborne

See Challenge Cup Pages for latest standing

A rather nice day to play golf with 32 players trying to get one of the top 14 spots in finals to be played mid June. With the third round at Knighton Heath to come in 2 weeks time, anyone including new participants has a chance. Other prize winners were as follows:

Looking forward to round 3. See you there hopefully.

SENIORS CAPTAIN’S CHARITY DAY REPORT

SMASHED

OVER £2000.00

RAISED IN A

SINGLE DAY

The Seniors Captain’s Charity Day was held in very pleasant and benign weather on Thursday, 5th May. Sixteen 8 man teams took part, with Teams coming from as far away as Wrangaton and The Dorset, both of whom are ever popular visitors. We were able to raise 3 Cricket St. Thomas teams plus the “Sinners”, a select CST team. Stuart Pope’s rugby playing mates from Cranleigh made their usual appearance and a good day was enjoyed by all. The Cheddington Wanderers reconstituted as Lyme Regis, which did cause a little confusion.

The Charity Day cannot take place without the help and cooperation of others.  I need to give a significant amount of thanks to many:

Alex Hill and Cricket St. Thomas management

     Matt Contreras in the Pro-shop

Tim, Kris, Dawn, Penny, Katie and the rest of the front of house staff at Cricket St. Thomas, for their cheerful and unstinting efforts before, during and after the day, and for producing such an excellent post match meal.

John Wandless and Quinny Lawrence for their efforts in record keeping and scoring. Quinny’s computer wizardry enabled all to see their results displayed on the Big Screen in quick time.

Dave and the rest of the green keeping staff for their efforts in presenting the Course in tremendous condition

Dave & June at the Starters Hut.

John Pearce and Chris Gingell for their invaluable assistance in producing and placing the Sponsor boards, NTP’s and similar signage.

James Siabi for all his organisational skills and many others erecting Gazebos ( we must order our own one)- so many of the Seniors involved in one way or another.

Clive Fisk in driving forward the Sponsorship of the holes, allowing us to raise £1500+ via these efforts

Special mention to Alan D for not only his hole sponsorship, but submitting the highest bid for the Henry vacuum

  •    But thanks to every sponsor of the holes, we hope you enjoyed the signs, and all those bidding for donated prizes.

Dickie Hall for his raffle and its money raising efforts - over £600 raised

Those who contributed prizes for the raffle

The Ladies Section and our wives and partners for their efforts in producing and selling the cakes, “cider” and fruit at the Halfway Hut - raising £160
