3- ball Texas scramble

Just in - Jenny Hall's bumper Hamper finally sold for a Bullseye after some last minute furious bidding once it was revealed there were Toilet Rolls , Hand Sanitiser and Pasta hidden in the bottom - another nice boost for the NHS Charity Day and big Thank You to Clive and Val for there generosity.

Captain plus a few others are at Churston Open on Monday)

can't think why they are going ....

Request to JW to set up Friday 2nd Oct for Individual entry for the Trip-6 Medley

Thanks John, all set up.

Going by the way most Seniors had multiple layers on,  including myself, Winter is upon us and hopefully not as cold as it was today with the sun shining. Fifty four turned up for this 3B scramble event with each team playing almost to the same handicap it was going to be those who play consistent golf were going to top the table. I personally think it was a near perfect selection  ( how modest of you skipper) with each team comprising of a low, mid and high handicapper and to be honest was expecting much closer differentiation in scores than they were. Maybe a different formula to be used to find out how best to match teams up so that they can return a near similar scores. To be Continued ***

A big thank you to John Sweet for taking care of the cards and tabulating the results.

Mon Plaisir Capitano !  Sacked for false accounting..see below

Here are today’s scores

..won by a Team that have probably never met and certainly not played together before - Albie will  never see this as he still does not have access to the Seniors Blog..what more can we do to help ?

Albie arrived at 08:10 for his 09:54 Tee-Time so 7 Coffees and a Big-Breakfast must have helped ...

" I'm playing with Muggo & Roger...."

John Sweet had made an error on the 2's. Corrections attached. Please update the blog

Ryan was busy offering to Install the new NHS Covid-19 Track & Trace App on Peoples' Phones and then giving Instructions on how to use it. Like many establishments, CST will allow anyone with the App to scan a QR Code and automatically Register that they have been there, avoiding having to give your name every time. Well done to Lisa & her Team for this Initiative.

A QR (Quick Response Code) is simply

...a machine-readable code consisting of an array of black and white squares, typically used for storing a Link  or other information for reading by the camera on a smartphone.

Typical Example - this one gets you into Madame Foo-Foos in Crewkerne, thanks for an unnamed Senior for providing this example.,

Did you get all the Emails from the Club in the last couple of days ?

  • As we head into early autumn, this is going to be a very busy season for the green staff. We have the greens renovation took place on the 23rd of September and lasted until 12pm today.  We will also be embarking on the irrigation upgrade (see separate notice) this is a new and exciting undertaking for the greens staff and will result in more consistent greens in the future.
  • You may also have noted that we have had our long rough areas cut; this is part of the maintenance of our long grass areas, which will promote finer grass species and wild flowers. The grass on the surface will be collected and taken away; this reduces soil fertility and allows finer grass species to thrive.
We have had great germination of the grass on the 15th tee; we will keep this topped off at a higher height, spray it for weeds and then gradually bring the height down so it will be ready for play in May of next year.

We are very pleased to announce that this autumn we will commence work on radically improving the irrigation system here at Cricket St Thomas golf club. The work will include putting in pipework around the green to feed below surface sprinklers. We will also install battery powered controllers, so that these sprinklers can be programmed to come on during night. This will make much better use of the water we apply to the greens and significantly reduce the need for daytime watering.

  • Initially we will install sprinklers on one green to trial their efficiency and to ensure they function as intended. Once this is complete we will then begin installing on the rest of the greens. The Green staff will be undertaking these works and we hope to be fully completed within 2/3 years. As work commences on each green, it will be taken out of play and a temporary green used, one the work has completed, the green will be returned to use. We hope to complete 6 greens during this winter if all goes to plan & depending on weather conditions.

This is another substantial investment by the golf club, which will really make a difference to the greens during the summer and reduce the inconvenience of having sprinklers on the green during play. We will keep you updated on the progress along with some pictures too. If you have any questions please contact me on

Many thanks,

Dave, Gareth, Jamie and Callum.
