2 from 3 yellow ball

The Eagle-Eyed ones amongst you will notice we have changed the name of one page to 'Golfing Program' - from a suggestion of one of our smarter Members. The term Roll-Up is effectively dead for the moment and may indicate that people can just arrive and play as in the past - if we do have such a schedule on a given day, we will make it clear to all.

Wednesday 2nd September2 from 3 Stableford Yellow Ball

I spoke too soon by saying in my previous report that everything was organised. We had withdrawals which couldn’t be helped. People trying to participate after the draw has been done, some turning up without notice, some not checking the blog for tee times only a few things that didn’t quite conform to the way we are trying to organise events in these difficult days.

12 teams of 3 battled for the top spot with the yellow ball coming into play. My playing partners stopped talking to me after 3 holes, as I decided to play safe and just put one anywhere inbounds to avoid losing the yellow ball. Wrong! It was out and my playing partners couldn’t use their yellow ball until the 8th hole. The lesson learned (hopefully) is play your normal game.

A couple of noticeable happenings today, John Twose is back as a member and no one could get a word as he was too excited to be amongst friends and you could hear him from miles away and of course winning the event with a personal score of 40 points not counting his yellow ball double points. Instant win and that shouldn’t be allowed. Welcome back John.

..admit it...you missed me didn't you !

Game Rules ( which were posted with Start Sheet on Hut)

3 Yellow balls per team. Low handicapper hole index 1-6, Mid handicapper hole index 7-12 & High handicapper hole index 13-18. If a player loses his yellow ball, or puts it OOB,  he no longer can use a yellow ball and the two playing partners can't use their yellow ball for the next 2 holes. Their score for these 3 holes will be as scored and not double points. This rule applies for each lost yellow ball. Each 'Retained' yellow ball returned will add 2 points to the teams totals - but lost or OOB Balls cannot be included although we welcome them back as we need quite a few in this format. Many thanks to those that supplied their own.

Captain having a laugh as he put 3 x John's out together which made communication fun.
Win was due to an 8,8,9,7,9 finish . Loved it walking up 10th with Sweetie as he announced "This is the last hole where I get 3 shots" - so we knew it was going to be tough !!! - From 14th onwards, Yellow Ball player scored 6 points - with Sweetie's 5 for 6 points on the 18th definitely needed - had he missed the put we'd have tumbled down to 5th.
Captain tried to play it safe on the 4th - so hit his 5-iron extra hard and it went OOB. This meant he now had his 4 remaining holes as Middle Handicapper without the Yellow. Additionally, Dickie was barred from using it on the 4th, then Paul on the 6th, James obviously didn't have one for the 7th, so it was the 8th Hole before Dickie could use a yellow for the Team....

It's funny as we were going round and JKP sunk a few putts - Mr Twose said - 'You should go out and buy a Lottery Ticket' - so I ignored him of course, but got a nice letter from the Premium Bonds just now...so maybe  I missed 'My Day'....

John Twose has returned to us after a year away playing at Wheathill, to partner his quite poorly Father-In-Law, who has since sadly passed away.   John tells us that Wheathill lost quite a few members to Long Sutton due to a special deal on fees. They had also furloughed all of their Staff so no work was done on the course for Months, which is taking time to recover.
Playing off 16.2 , but scoring well yesterday as he was hitting the ball sweetly. He immediately offered his card to our Handicap Sec who has submitted to the Pro Shop. This imposed an immediate cut of 0.6 to 15.6 , but I think it is only headed in 1 direction.
