Texas Scramble

Saturday Update:-

First picture from Roger shows Mark Cording pocketing a nice £50 for Third Place in the Seniors County Stableford at Orchardleigh.

COUNTY SENIORS AUTUMN STABLEFORD

80 seniors from around the County played in this competition which was held at Orchardleigh G.C. near Frome.

Storm Lorenzo seemed to have abated, however the day provided all players with a bleak wet day with drizzle all through our rounds. Needless to say scores were not good, enhanced by the greens which had been top dressed last week and were rather bumpy and sandy, a pity that they were not produced in a better state for a County event.

CST had a strong entry of 20 players, along with 28 from Long Sutton, without these two clubs having such large entries, then maybe the competition would really not be worth running.

Not all bad news though, as in the Team competition for the George Smith Cup, one of our teams consisting of Mark Cording, Charles Vane-Percy, Roger Hinds and Nick Clarke came a very creditable Runner Up position with a team from Wells G.C.

In the individual competition for the Sir Roger Hollis Cup, Mark Cording 35pts came 3rd, losing out by only one point to two players from Well G.C.who both carded 36pts. If only that putt had dropped Mark!

It was muted that next years Autumn meeting is due to be held at Long Sutton G.C. but this has to be confirmed.

I would personally like to thank all 20 of our CST team that turned out in such awful weather.

Well done Lads, hopefully see you all again next year with maybe a few more.

Very quiet up there today as the threat of storm Lorenzo put many off and Roger had 20 over at Orchardleigh for the County Seniors.

Bob Rees took charge for about 30 seconds and then lost interest. The draw was done and the calculators were out to try and fit in 11 players..until a brilliant piece of mathematics from Bert Robinson counted the bodies and ask why we thus had 12 players seated.  Further investigations spotted Chris Gingell had sneaked in without completing registration !
Normally he would be pilloried and chastised..but we needed him today so a couple of 'Hum-Hum's and the draw was complete.

As we finished, nice and early and with zero rain, we all felt rather pleased. Ken Trott confessed that he nearly turned back en-route as the rain fell in Langport, but he spotted blue sky over Windwhistle Hill and continued.

Almost unnoticed today, the team of MacOmish, Smallwood and Putland - handed in a very nice card, beautifully written and with barely a blemish to take the win with consummate ease.

Nobby reminded us 43 times that they had a '2'.
The other '2' was recoded by Jerry Stephens  who still had to get one more drive in as they strode up the 16th..and what better way to do it for a nice £2.00 each.

Dave Taylor if he was in the Scramble alone, matched the last Team  !!!

Dave Taylor Oct Rolling Stableford - 38 Points
Roger Withers 23 Points

Yes, Dave Taylor cruised around with 39 Points and would have beaten these 3 on the back 9 !!!

Just 1 ahead of DD Taylor, the great-great grandson of the course designer  J H Taylor ..but still wearing the shorts.

Bogey , Bogey Bogey start as Ted's Trio all tried hard NOT to get a drive in !

3 Birdies, but with only 8 shots
.. their 5 Bogies were just too many
Bogey, Bogey, Bogey on 10,11 & 12 was suicide for Bertie & Co
