SENIORS TWO OUT OF THREE YELLOW BALL COMPETITION
Stroke Index, Low Handicapper SI 1-6 etc
13TH JUNE 2018

Flash News.....Dave the Head Greenskeeper has requested we join him Tuesday 26th at 09:00 for a Divot Repair Day . You bring a Bucket & he'll supply the Bacon Butties..Your help would be much appreciated as many hands make light work..why not bring up the Family ..will set the course up nicely for our Open.
They supply Seed Mix which you transfer to your bucket and we walk 20 abreast down each Fairway & Tee. Deposit seed mix into every hole you find and tread it well down, which cracks the seed & starts the process. So you can see the more bodies we have, the faster we will get it done. Trowel can be handy for those with delicate hands.

This is different to the new Design for the LED powered  Big Ben Clock, where many lights make hands work.

and just in from the Captain...

Match Report vs Minehead Away 13/06/2018

We travelled to Minehead today to play by the sea, not much sun to be seen
but good conditions to play golf and there was always the sound. of the steam train in the background.

The food was again excellent with a bacon bap & coffee upon arrival followed by a one course meal, with the game of golf included for £13 including the tip
how could you beat that for a good day out.

Did I mention I got nearest the pin on the ninth today, well nice for your captain to win something these days, sorry Mr Stone but you can’t win every week.

Barrie Heath/ Mike King                lost 1 down
Roger Stone/ John Twose              lost  4&2
Chris Gingell/ Barry Singleton       lost  2 down
Dave Mugridge/ John Macomish  lost 4&3
Alan Chance/ Mike Hone               lost  3 down
James Siabi/ Mark Cording            Halved

Match Result                           Lost 5 ½ to ½

B. Heath  (Captain)
..and back to Pete's Report....
Yet another warm and sunny day with a hint of the weather to come as the wind increased steadily throughout the round. With a team away at Minehead earlies and lates totalled 36 for the Yellow Ball Comp.
As usual trying to get the yellow ball round eighteen holes proved to be problematical for some! The worst was the first hit of the day off the 16th by the author. Everyone saw it running between the green and the right hand trees, but was never found. The Golf Police have been informed and are currently looking for either a small boy or a fat rook.
Roy Miller creamed his ball to within 8ft on the ninth declaring to Farmer Bob "You'll will be pleased to see that" -  only to find the required yellow ball was still firmly in his pocket - so he was 3 off the Tee with the correct Yellow.

Yes, this Picture was Bill's Idea.

Bill Hilson tried hard to lose his on the first..only to find it up by the bell of the 4th...but it was short relief as a great drive on the 3rd was followed by an errant 2nd shot into the long grass left of the ditch & lost.

It's always interesting when the Low Handicapper of the Three is 20+ !
Five yellow balls were lost but, as Bob B found three, net losses were kept to a minimum,

Nick George Tried Hard on his approach to 14th..then hit a wonder chip onto the Green, Made 5 for 4 points.. We were informed by Ian G that rules state ball has to be played as it lies, no drop off the Tees any more.

See Nick's Yellow in front of Bryan,

Team winnings are as follows 1st £5 each, 2nd £4 each, 3rd £3 each. 7 Birdies paid £0.85 per team member.

Peter Spencer- Farr.  Vice Capt.

Lots of news up there today, the first being that General Manager Sean Whelan has departed and will therefore not be managing our Seniors Open on July 4th - so The Seniors will have some urgent negotiations with the Club and invoke 'Plan B'.
Denise was up for a visit to see Kathleen, looking sun-tanned & relaxed in her new job in Eype Holiday Camp, with Tess.
Kathleen's last day is next Tuesday as she returns to Taunton to work in a City Restaurant with hopefully more predictable hours and easier commute.

Sad news about dear old Charlie Murphy who has passed away. One of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet and a wicked Irish crack.

Summer Knockout News....have you paid Keith your £2 Yet ?
Action on the course saw Nick Hill locking horns with Roger Hinds. Roger looked shell-shocked as he assessed how he was to concede Nick - 22 Shots -so 2 shots on 4 of the holes.  Nick made a cracking start and was 3 up after the 10th. Roger had blasted one through the Tree on the left..but never found it. Contemplating 3 off the Tee, he did the maths with Nick by the Humps for One.
Nick was getting 2 shots here, so he was effectively minus 1..so Roger didn't bother walking back 180 Yards to play his Third - with Nick thus being 4 shots ahead !
It obviously went to Nick's head, dreaming of his 25 Day River Cruise next week - and promptly lost the next 6 holes and went down 3 & 2.

Nick was approached by several people about the Super Senior's Cup on June 20th. ( must be 75+).
Roy Miller asked to be added as he proudly announced he was 76. I believe Vic Gane has pulled out, which will now make Farmer Bob hot favourite.  Nick will reserve 3 tee times on both Early & Late starts so that our Super Seniors can get out first. Probably still squeeze you in if you have not entered...at 75 we can allow you a few lapses.
