3 Man Texas Scramble

1st June 2018

48 members of the Seniors played in yet another Texas Scramble. This was an amazing number bearing in mind that twelve members were also playing against Weymouth in an inter club friendly. We welcomed the return of Trevor Dobson who has been absent for quite a while. Some well fancied teams failed to shine although Bryan Frost’s team, won with a card that contained no sixes, a feat equalled by only one other team. There were four 2’s, each paying £6.00 per team.

Triumphant Cricket St Thomas Seniors end Weymouth's winning streak.

Weymouth until today had won their last ten Seniors matches both home and away taking the scalps of most of Somersets elite. Today however they met their match with a fine win for the home side of 3 and a half to 2 and a half. On a lovely day marred by only one sharp downfall of rain there were some great performances. Weymouth were extremely impressed with our club, the facilities, the course, the greens and the stunning views. The consensus was that we are the best course they had played on this year.

Stats as follows:-

Peter Spencer-Farr/ Roger Davis Lost 1 Down
Chris Gingell/ Barrie Heath Won 2 and 1
John Pearce/ James Siabi Halved
Dave Mugridge/ Barry Singleton Won 4 and 2
George Wallace/ Mark Cording Won 6 and 4
Martin Bargery/ Nobby Hodder Lost 2 and 1.

Roger Davis won the home bottle of wine for nearest the pin on the 16th.

Thanks to both John and Barrie( back from his wet week in Portugal) for stepping in at the last minute to cover for illness.

Peter S F Vice and still undefeated Stand-in Capt!!!

Do you recognise someone...ex Premier Referee Paul Durkin - gave Barry Singleton a total of 8 Yellow Cards for swearing and Dave Mugridge 2 for reaching 1st Green in 2 , barely missing the Eagle...

Also up there was Martin Leigh with his best man. He & Rachael get married up there tomorrow and you are all invited to pop in for a beer & bite at the evening event..they will be knocking it out until Midnight...

..and an unashamed invitation to the whole Family to the Tatworth Tractor & Machinery Show on Sunday from 10:00- where there are refreshments & food plus other entertainment in the Playing Fields.  The reason I mention is that I will be there manning the Boy Scouts Stall with Home-Made Cakes and lots of other 'car boot' Items.  Still trying to raise money for the 2019 trip to Kenya for Michael Bowditch, my Grandson who many of you will have seen playing golf.

They will be working with local Schools and Villagers that the Somerset Scouts are helping out.

It's a great little Day Out and a chance to see all the lovingly restored static engines that powered Farming for a hundred years and a good selection of classic cars.
