Yellow Ball Stroke Index

18 early birds and 30 late starters played today plus 2 from the early birds playing the Rolling Stableford in glorious sunshine, and now that the course has had a few more cuts
it is looking in fine condition, I suppose by the end of the week we’ll be moaning about the ball not stopping and hoping for rain, I joke.

I think there were 6 non-returns of the yellow ball today with a few of the usual moans about why do we play this format but for about 6 or 7 times a year I think it gives a little edge to the game.

..indeed it does Captain. A good example was as my group played the 14th. Toss Smith asked me "What the hell were you lot doing on 14th ?" ...so here's the explanation.

We Teed-off on 14, JKP & Eric Right, Keith left.  Found JKP Ball and looking for Eric who sliced right. Encountered Geoff, Vic & Billy coming up 15th- looking for Vic & Geoff's Ball.  It's a Titleist with GD on it he said as we found a Bridgestone - which was unclaimed but rejected. Eric wandered across 15th & found his ball & played it with Vic still searching - failed to find Geoff's GD Ball until we played 15th ourselves and found it. Meanwhile, Keith was down the left & played his 2nd shot into trees on the right. Suddenly shouting was heard from top of hill and Martin Leigh was asking if we had played the correct ball as he was surrounded with a choice of Yellow Titleist, White ball marked 'Des' and a Bridgestone - but none were his. Keith then had a revelation and confessed he had forgotten he was playing Yellow and hit a White. Back up the hill for Keith and he then played his Yellow , hit the 'Des' Ball across to the happy Desmond and pocketed the Bridgestone.
That, is Seniors Golf !

You may or may not be aware that the Mr & Mrs Greensomes competition has been cancelled partly due to the Ladies having a lot on over the next week or so, Sue Kirby was very sorry but they were struggling to raise a team and in fairness so were we, we are now playing a 3 ball Stableford all scores to count with the cards entered on the computer.

One more thing if anyone is interested Paul the Pro has entered the Staysure PGA Pro Am Trophy he has to play with a 50+ amateur he has asked if anyone wants a chance to take part, please pay £2 in the pro shop mentioning what it’s for, when we play our Stableford Qualifier on 23rd May & the best score from Division 1 can join Paul in the regional final at The Players Club on Tuesday on 29th May, it’s a great chance for a senior to have a great day out with Paul.  The winner will come from our qualifier on the 22nd.

8 Birdies today paying £1 per player.

..but first an apology to Mr Chris Basterfield. A Picture in the BLOG last week appeared to indicate that Nick Hill was pointing to his drive on the 13th going OOB. After reviewing the CCTV and consulting with GCHQ - they have enhanced to picture to show Nick was actually using Semaphore to indicate a 'B' eautiful Shot.

Bim playing 2nd on 6th from a less than desirable position !
Des was to lose the Yellow on the very next hole. We followed them and found it in plain view in the Bomb Crater..but of course kept it to the end out of kindness.

Desmond with his new Knee and back playing

..but he soon found out as he put they replacement Yellow over the road on 8th.. OK I know you cannot replace the Yellow, but it's good psychology to have a Yellow Ball in play for the Eagle Eyes that are watching...
