Round 1 Summer KO & Roll-Up 2 from 4
We were greeted with a 'Course Closed' notice at 07:30 as a thick cloud lingered over the course, but the doors were flung wide at 08:17 and the Golf got underway.
Quite a few voted with their feet as it was still pretty damp and a lot of rain had fallen.
Maurice, Chris & Richard were fresh back from Ashley Wood Open where their 12:00 Tee-Time was beautifully timed to meet the rain front that persisted their entire miserable round..and we all know how Chris loves the rain !!!
The Vice-Captain was up early controlling things for the Summer Knockout and collecting the £2 entry that we all need to pay, even if you got a bye in the first round.
6 Matches were able to take place with the following results.
Ian Housham beat Mark Sanders 3 &2
Richard Hall took the scalp of Roger Davis on the last hole , winning 1 Up.
We passed George Wallace and Martyn Putland on the 15th, where George had already closed the deal by winning 6 & 4.
James Siabi finally overcame John MacOmish to win their match 3&2
Dave Mugridge finally overhauled Bernie Skeels despite losing the 1st - with Dave winning 5&3.
and Match no.6 saw a frustrated Farmer Bob close the deal over Mike Miles 2 &1 , with Mike making him work very hard for the win.
The Remaining Matches must be completed by 24th June please.
Richard Forster will then combine the 16 Winners from Round 1 with the 16 with Byes to form Round 2.

and so to the Roll-Up. Early birds did not wish to get involved in a roll-up so did their own thing.
First job for the late boys was to sort out all the lovely new cards that had been printed for us.

so no complaints please as we have been asking you for weeks if yours is missing, hand-written or wrong.
8 remained for the Roll-Up and a simple 2 from 4 format was agreed and what a great little game it proved. It's amazing what a difference this makes and the effect it had on the overall scores. Frank Martin headed up Team 1 with Bill Hilson, Jim MacDonald and Brian Hodder.
Team 2 drew Captain Maurice Arnold, with Chris Hiam
, Ian Fielder and John Pearce.
Frank & Co make a good start with a 6,6,6 on the Score Card. Maurice & Company looked in trouble off the 1st Tee as Chris & Ian both hit the Greenkeepers Hut, but the collective managed a couple of points, supplemented by a 6,7 on 2 & 3 with Ian passing the pin on the 3rd with a great 6 iron.
Both Teams were very productive over the First 9 with just 2 points separating them standing 43 & 45 respectively. Just 2 points by Frank on the 8th was the culprit- but Gareth the Grass was just ahead of them all the way and the 8th Green was very slick.
Maurice & Co crept further ahead with a run of 7,7,7 on the 11th through 13th, with Mo, Ian & Chris all having 4-point holes with Birdies or 2-shot allowance.
Billy made a Par on the 15th for 4 points, coupled with Frank's Par gave them a welcome 7.
Brian Hodder was the man in form on the Front 9, scoring 8 successive holes before fatigue set in.
Jim Mac birdies the 17th to produce the only 'ring on their card' , whereas Maurice laid claim to 3 times that many.
So, back in the Clubhouse, Frank's Card lay on the table, with 'Two Fat Ladies' on display - 88 beat that if you can …
so when Maurice walked in with his thumb covering part of the Total, revealing only the '9' they all went quiet...as the 95 was met with universal applause and congratulations as you can imagine !!
Despite attempts to get Farmer Bob to find a flaw in the card, the result was accepted and the £3 'Winner take all' Prizes were formally presented by Frank.
We should play this more often as you can have a great crack amongst the foursome as well as set a great target, although this 95 will stand for some time as a record and a thorn in the side of the poor unfortunates that came up against them on this day.
We had the pleasure of playing off the beautiful 11th Tee today and the fine surroundings with Flower Beds planted out and a new ball Washer.
Where were you all ?- we had a great day.
