Wednesday 7th March 2018
2 from 3 Stableford

Well Done Norman - Still no Trolleys at East Devon.

On a day when 12 of our finest were playing at Axe Cliff,

Captains Match Report vs Axe Cliff (away) 07/03/2018

Well here we go again our first match of the year, it was enjoyable to get out
and play 18 holes on main greens with some fantastic views across Seaton and
Beer then back along the coast towards Weymouth and Portland with great
company and good food.

A good start to the season any win or draw is always a good result away from
home, our next game is away to Bridport on 22nd March, anyone interested in
playing the list is on the notice board in the changing rooms.

..and back to Nick's Report

24 members turned up to play. The five early starters opted to play individually for the monthly Stableford competition, with three returning a card. Brian Marsh starred with 42 points.

We anxiously await Andy Beale's result as he was up practicing Chipping for 3 hours before the Match. Over 200 Balls and all somewhere in the Practice Area and 2 or 3 were actually where he was aiming.

Nick didn't mention in this report, but Keith Potter was giving us a pretty grizzly report on JW in Hospital, as Nick was staring at John Wandless, thinking 'well he looks OK now'..
..but of course Keith was talking about John Wallis.  JW was having a new valve inserted into his heart intravenously . The New Valve was set beautifully and the Surgeon began to withdraw all his tools and equipment - when it caused a tear in his Aorta - and of course serious bleeding. It is the largest artery in our system and we cannot survive very long without it, and from what Keith intimated, John nearly didn't - but the Medical Staff managed to recover the situation. John is thus still interred in Bristol Hospital and has a few complications to be resolved before we will see his happy smiling face again on the Golf Course.

18 later starters played a 2 from 3 competition. Conditions were very favourable at the start. Towards the end a brief hail storm put paid to later starters hopes of a win. The winning teams started 1st and 2nd.
Thanks to CB for stepping down to sort our awkward '19' number.
..but all but the last 2 Teams had already made it home...

There were 3 cards returned in the Rolling Stableford :

Brian Marsh         42 points
Phil Dewar           37 points
Ron Sutherland    34 points

Norman was really confused as he came in with a 73 , wondering if it was enough to win. 'What do I need to Win ?' - and the enigmatic answer came back - 'Well it begins with an E'..
....13 Minutes later Norman returned and asked 'What begins with an E ?'
..."Eighty" was the terse reply as Norman reddened, but recovered quickly and said 'Anyone want to Pay for Dainton Park' and whistled quietly.

Earlier, after chat with Captain, Norman had little choice but to cancel East Devon as they could not say for sure if Trolleys would be allowed on the course. Norman was inundated with potential cancellations if Trolleys were banned as the Rolling Hills of East Devon would be impossible for 63% of our Members if we were carrying. he will contact Mike Light to see if we can get an alternative date.

Run-Away they were as they came in 27 Minutes ahead of the next Team...very impressive.

Please note that the March Hare will go ahead on Wednesday 14th March, all things being equal. If you are unable to play, please inform Barrie Heath (Nick Hill is away for the next two weeks). Otherwise the starting times will remain the same as originally drawn.
