Good Friday Mates Day
Friday 30th March 2018
I must confess to not playing today as I was on Tesco duties.
Norman Markby is the hero for saving us from the freezing rain down at East Devon in the Challenge Cup..it would have been miserable.
At least 16 went out to play today and amazingly they were on Main Greens except for 17 & 18. Most seemed to have stuck to the Top 9 Holes.
Not many completed cards to be seen and no money was wagered, Vice-Captain with Roger & Bob of course had a perfect card written out , but nothing to show for their hard work.
Pete was later DQ'd as he pulled a hot 'Tea-Bag' from amongst his balls and the rough material was considered to have scored one side, inducing reverse swing . Bob was unsure which way to go, so just reached for his 'Dickie' and wrote a big red DQ.
Pete protested they were bona-fide hand warmers ; we would like to clarify that a 'Dickie' is a Marker Pen popular amongst Golfers.

1st 3 out were Alan Chance with Mike Banfield & Tony Church, followed by Phil Dewar ( Portlanders play in any weather) George Wallace and Roger Davis. The 'Late arrivals' were Billy Hilson, Richard Agar and Bryan Frost; followed by Pete S-Farr, Roger Stone and Farmer Bob - with Frankie, Dickie, Sweetie and Mike H coming in last as we pictured them in the mist.
We only had Tee-Times from 8:08 to 9:18.

Plea from Captain for Wheathill 11:00 on Thursday 5th April (Away)
Wheathill Golf Club was opened in May 1993 and is set in a jewel of Somerset Countryside. It is an 18-hole parkland course comprising a picturesque 5607 yards of gently undulating fairways along the River Cary.
Just 20 Miles away along the Roman Fosse way.
Hi, could you please put out a call for the above match on
the 5th April as I only have 12 names down & my wife has had an
appointment come through today for some check-ups at Yeovil on the 5th & I
have to put Lorraine first.
So we need 1 more player + 1 or 2 reserves would be nice.
Thanks,
Barrie
