Burns Day 25th January
Not so much Rabbie Burns as Robber Beale again today as 38 turned up to work up a hunger for the Burns Lunch.
I witnessed the leading team tee-off at 08:19 and three great shots down to the corner indicated they were on form.
Just 15 Holes Open and 7 Temporaries, on 2nd, 6th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th. Bit soggy underfoot at it had rained overnight with more to come.
Very welcome sight up there today was this man...
..although Phil Hunt assures me he is surveying for the new Car Parks...but
I like my theory better.
Scores were remarkably similar down to half-way, so it was mainly the
handicap allowance that decided the order. The great little 55 gross by Alan
Chance should have won on most days, but with 12 shot allowance to Andy &
Co - nearly a shot-a-hole - it was just a whisker too much.
Captain Nick & Rosemary are in the air as we speak off for 3-weeks in
South Africa, looking to re-populate Chaffecombe from the Townships.
Five 2's today, which handily mopped up the cash from a 'double-Rollover'
where no 2's were scored on the last 2 Scrambles. Definitely none on the 13th,
into a howling gale.
We were even honoured with Mike & Jackie Dawson today, plus Mr
Basterfield back from 2 Months away...now Maurice has gone missing. The rumour
that they are actually the same person is only going to get stronger !
I'll try and put something together for the Burns Lunch, which was a very successful little affair and I think enjoyed by all, including about 18 Ladies.
One comment received from a 'well respected ' player was about Divots when playing Texas Scrambles - we need to take care in these soggy days as concentrated damage can be caused when all playing shots from the same place and replacing divots becomes even more important.
