Sunday 30th August Captain's Final Report

on Senior's Championship

Fifty-three players started the postpone Championship in reasonably fine weather, but with strong winds that seem to affect the scoring for a goodly number of the field.

 

Taking the Championship honours was Roger Stone, home with a net 72. In a tight finish, three players were only one shot adrift - Danny Dowell, Ray Gudge and Robin Flower all on 73, but on countback, 2^nd place went to Ray (gross 41 – net 32 back nine), 3^rd to Danny (36/34 back nine) and 4th to Robin (51/41 back nine).

However the leading two’s position was reversed in the Scratch Cup with Danny achieving a five-shot lead with his gross 77 to Roger’s 82. A little way behind on 88 was third placed Alan Chance and fourth on 89 was Chris Basterfield.

 Playing off the Whites confused a few players, including the Captain and Sid Crisp who both incurred a two-stroke penalty on the 11^th as did Dick Hall on the 15^th. Unfortunately Dick continued playing the foul ball and consequently D/Q himself on clarifying the rules on his return to the Clubhouse.

 

Just two ‘twos’ were recorded, Alan Chance on the 13th and John MacOmish on the 16^th – with a generous pot to share between them!
