Bank Holiday Monday 31st August
Forecast said it would stop raining by 09:35 and it proved spot on. Fog lingered a little longer but was clearing just after Brian Frost chipped in on the 4th for a birdie.
Vice Captain was up to organise us, then left. Farmer Bob pretty much took control and hand-picked himself a nice little team, with Billy to see under the mist and Mike to shout when required..although somehow 'Fore Left' became 'Oops lookout Bob' - as he shanked 90 degrees left on one occasion.
Bit of debate about handicaps, but in the event Ted and Co would have pretty much won under any calculation, especially when I re-checked their card and added it to 37 coming back instead of the marked 39.
So they had Gross 72 and a net 43 - which must be a course record !
Bob tried to DQ us for putting date as 31/08 with no Year - but according to the Rules of Golf (33.5) it is the responsibly of the Committee to put the date on a Score Card !!!!
Any way it was all a great bit of fun and the ideal game for such a dreicht day - typical Bank Holiday.
Not many others up at the Club. We did see Mike Donaghue out with Lee & Mark Tubbs. Mike took his Tee Shot on 7th and it went 15 Yards..unlike his Driver which flew another 50...tutt tutt...
One disappointment was the number of really fresh divots, showing how much care we have to take on days when the surface is quite wet and I have a feeling the guys ahead of us must have been responsible for a few of them.
