Richard chips in for a Two on 16th with Yellow Ball earning 6 points  as we welcome back Bob Dennett and Steve Holt.

What a boost for Captain's Charity as Jim's Christmas raffle smashes all the records.  Thanks to everyone who donated to 76 Prizes that were dished out

Captain Keefunt  talking

"Well done Jim. From a golfing perspective, we had Farmer Bob with the most played rounds this year, the “Longest Walk”, just a nice way of saying last😁 was won by Mssrs Gardener, Williams & Baker, NTP #8 Rod Stevens & NTP in 2 on #16 with a 5W was Bob Dennett. Thanks to all who made today a success."

Special mention for Eric Williams who nearly lost the Yellow on Hole 2 and had his team frantically searching for it behind Red tee on 3rd hole , before discovering that Team ahead had concealed the Yellow that had landed at their feet and pretended they saw it headed OOB.  True Man of Cornwall, Eric recovered to play it again on 5th Hole with a magnificent drive straight down the middle. As his Team gathered around him for a mutual 'love-in' - he then proceeded to slice it OOB with his 2nd shot...

All week they have been up and down the course picking up debris and keeping it open & playable for Members.

JKP Proposes an extra £100 in their Christmas Box this year..will happily pay £25% myself ..any other offers .....or will new Treasurer open the Seniors Coffers ?

Storm Darragh ravages CST - most damage in 50 Years.

6th Hole bears the brunt, but another dozen Trees have larges limbs dangling , ready to fall. Course littered with debris.

A30 was blocked at one time, Peter & Jan were up there to get warm as they have been without power in Broadwindsor since Saturday.

But amazingly, The Seniors just rolled-up and played golf .

Thanks to Chris Gingell for the photos

Yes, The Bryan Frost Tree has gone..but Chris G has saved the Plaque.

Disappointed no-one spotted ironic comment in WhatsApp saying we had secured Plaque with a Bolt from Penrith Engineering..going to have to lower the standard.

Like Lucky Jim did on Friday as we were talking about Dignity and he thought we had said Dignitas - then had a brainwave about having Dignitas Vouchers as Raffle Prizes.

Welcome to new member Bob Tuttiett.

I offered him a Coffee, which he declined but said he'd like another  "Tea"

Bob lives in Over Stratton, ne4ar South Petherton.

The Minutes from the AGM will be on the Notice Board on Monday - Below is an extract that were raised on the day

ANY OTHER BUSINESS from AGM

Clive Fisk has asked that more people get involved and help out on charity day especially for the

fund raising. This was passed to the incoming Captain who stated that he would be looking to

form a small working group to assist in Sponsorship and running setting up and running the

Charity day.

Kevin Barry has asked that more competitions are played outside of the Roll-Ups. He suggested that they should run throughout the day so more people that work can participate. This had quite a discussion from the floor and voted to leave as it is now club would take 15% and cards would

need to be collected at the end of each day. Not practical.

Dennis Hussey asked about Reciprocals, apparently some clubs have up to 14 but Mark stated

this is a matter for the club owners and not the seniors.

Rob Shelley asked about Soap Dispensers in the showers and a paper towel dispenser, again this

is a matter for the club.

Richard Holmes mentioned that members should play 6 roll-ups before being able to play in a

match play or trophy event as this year trophies were won by 2 members that had only played in 1

roll up between them, this was seen as not being committed members of the seniors section. The

committee say this should be 5 not 6. 2 events would not be included, these are the Past

Captains trophy and the current Winter League as it has already started, after a prolonged debate

this was voted on and agreed that it would be 5 events not including the current Winter League

and past Captains Trophy.

Mark Cording says that anyone needing Club Buggies to be individually entered into club draws

and not paired up with other buggy users. This was quickly met with a lot of objections and voted

out to leave as it is currently.

Andy Rowland feels we should play more team and fun games from the white tees to get people

used to them so they have more confidence when playing Medal qualifiers. This would be a trial

only. In the winter we would play off the Reds and Blues and the summer Yellows and Whites.

This approved by the members

Rod Stevens asked about purchasing matting to allow buggies out in wet weather but this was

agreed as a matter for the owners.

Danny Dowell says to enact the 2 card rule for every competition at roll-up, only one to be handed

in once verified by all players. After a very short debate this was voted in unanimously, and John

Wandless pointed out that the card takes precedence over the computer.

John Evans and Dougie Oliver asked about course information which Any Rowlands has already

explained that the owners aren't very forthcoming with information and even the water supply has

not been sorted and is a long way off yet. Roger Stone mentioned the club needs to keep

members informed but again very little information is forthcoming from the Owners.

In addition Peter Spencer-Farr says we need to be thankful for what we have as not every club has the same level of recognition as our seniors section.

Those unable to attend can put forward their vote in advance to any Committee Member. You are encouraged to take part in this selection if an important Committee position

If you have any questions please contact the Chairman (Mark) or the Captain (Keith)

Nick Gabb

I did an accountancy course in the early 1980s and filled the treasurer position in the WOs and Sgts mess for a year. Noting that in those days this was double entry book keeping in a ledger. I have a BSc in Mathematical Sciences from the Open University.  I was also an Incorporated Engineer and Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society until I retired last year.  Although not familiar with modern accountancy software, I can find my way around a spreadsheet having spent the past 30 years justifying business cases to spend vast sums of taxpayers money.

David Asquith

I joined CST Golf Club (and the Seniors Section) in 2019 and have served as a Seniors Committee member for the past 2 years.

I have been a Treasurer for several different organisations for most of the past 20 years. I am currently Treasurer of the local Flower Show as well as being Treasurer for another non-profit making organisation with a £100,000 per annum turnover.

I am not a qualified Accountant, but during my working career I designed, installed and maintained computer systems to support many areas of business, including Finance. I therefore have a solid understanding of financial accounting and terminology.

Wow, I'm impressed - like reading CV's from The Apprentice.

Never ceases to amaze  me how much latent talent we have in the Seniors.

Best of luck to both Candidates, Nick Grabb  and David AsQuid.

Welcome back to Martin Dew, who knew Two - was on the cards on just his 2nd hole. He played his 2nd shot to 2nd hole into bright sunshine - like most of us, not a clue where the ball was as if you looked up too soon you were blinded !   - After exactly 2 minutes 59 seconds  A Cording to Mark - John Sweet picked a Pro-V-1X from the hole, with "MD" in red Sharpie and casually announced " Could this be it ?

Friday 29th November 2024

Welcome to Captain Keith Hunt as a Blog Editor and he has already started work on several pages and posting The Monthly Schedule.

Well, we tried very hard today as we arrived to find the course covered in 100 Acres of Fog - precisely !

The Clubhouse was heaving as Green Fees, The Eggs, The Earlies and The Lates all crowded around the Bar trying to get Matt's attention for a Coffee !

Eventually, at 09:07 Nate appeared and said 'Play' - but to listen out for the Klaxon.

The Eggs had cracked and gone off, so 6 earlies went out first,

followed by 21 Others in 3-balls playing in an Individual Stableford Qualifier ...or so we thought.

So off we went into the Fog, but 100 Metres Visibility allowed us to safely stagger the groups. 20 Yards would have been enough for anyone with more than 2-names as his ball trickled forward about 40 feet.

Now I'd like to say the Sun came out and we had another great day of Golf....but it didn't and we spent an hour in the cold wet low cloud. Play was painfully slow as 9 of us gathered for a chat on the 3rd Tee.

The Siabi Group Teed off around 10:00 and as we walked off the 5th - The Klaxon sounded and it  was back into the 19th for a warming Coffee.

Some groups had made it to the 10th - which was a long walk back. It was the correct call by Nate as Fog on the higher ground began to re-form.

Nice to see Geoff & Janice Dean up there for Lunch - Jeff explained that they were celebrating his younger sister's 90th Birthday.

Remember the Blog story 11 Years ago when Geoff did an Abseil from the top of St Mary's Chard - and a few of you thought he had done the 1,115 feet down The St Martin's Shard in London.

Managed to dig out the actual picture.

Geoff was also a bell ringer in the Church, so he was able to pull a few strings.

Barrie Heath is closing in on his 80th, as he celebrated 79   last Monday.

Any volunteers for Treasurer Yet ?

Keith Branchmanager has tendered his resignation.
Blog would prefer a replacement with a name which we can bastardise for our amusement..

How about Martyn Jewell,   Paul ( Bank of ) England, Nick Grabb, Bob Borrow, Martin Forgery, Pete Spend-so-far, Clive Frisk..surely you can do better.
