SENIORS FOURSOMES TROPHY 30th March 2026
It was effectively all over at 08:08 as Mark K teed off - and he and Neil just kept on going.
Fairly tame results as no pair sparkled - with the Top 4 all being level on 19 after 9 Holes.
Day was not quite as warm as forecast, but it stayed dry with a nippy wind. Greens look really good as they are prepared for the Mizuno Tour Singles Open on Wednesday.
Defending Champions were calling for the Emergency Services as they rang up Front 9-11
and the back 9 -11.
Tipped Favourites threw it all away by scoring a single point on 14 & 15.
As often happens, a last minute pairing nearly stole the show as James S was substituted by James P - after an unfortunate RTA - but happily our Captain is un-injured ( unlike the Car).
There were some tough up-wind holes out there, especially 1st, 7th 9th, 14th - with no-one scoring a Par on 7th or 14th. I was out with Cornish Eric who related Kevin B all but driving the 7th the other day.
Funny this morning as I strode around Tatworth delivering The Drift, a community magazine. In one house there was a hard working Senior, smashing through a concrete drive to fit a new 8 foot long 6×6 fence post.
We discussed his round, 14 out and 21 back and all those missed putts. He drove on 17 and sailed past the bunker, finishing 40 yards from the pin. The duty driver on team B wondered if he should go yet, as bell had not rung. Thinking he would be OK as they were on main tees, he went ahead and creamed one onto the Green, 8 feet from the pin. As they arrived greenside, the Team ahead asked "what was that all 8about ?"
The quick thinking culprit simply apologised and said " yes, I duffed my drive and my wingman had to hit one from by the bush and caught it so well it reached the green"
A minute or so later the blameless wingman strode into the 8 man gathering, totally unaware of why he was getting the evil-eye from everyone. So chose your partners carefully, foursomes is a great way to find out who your mates really are.
6. Alternate Shot Format (Foursomes)
Alternate Shot, also known as Foursomes, is a classic and highly strategic golf format where two players form a team and take turns hitting the same ball. This format is known for its emphasis on teamwork and communication, as each player depends on their partner’s shot.
CST are famous for creating this Competition using the Stableford Format back in the 1980's which introduces elements not found in the Medal format of the game. Players at every-level of handicap are at the races until the very end. No longer does a wayward 11 on the first hole effectively rule out half of the field. In a recent visit by Golf England, The Seniors Captain was thanked for continuing the format for its inclusivity of all players in our unique group of 55-95 Year olds.
