Stuart Pope on Gordon Bareham ( no he's not dead !)
I joined Cranleigh Rugby Club in 1976 where I met Gordon, who played prop
but was better known for propping up the bar. I contacted him to see if he
could again play in the Charity Day for the Cranleigh Rugby Gofers team.
Below is his reply .B est regards Stuart

First of all, I am very envious of you enjoying a summer in WA. Perth is
probably my favourite Australian city and I have spent some good times there.
Great memories…..
Back to the “ real world “ and the Charity Golf Day. I will not be joining
you. Over the past year I have had a few health problems which have restricted
my activities and I have played very little golf in 2022 . Last January I had a
pacemaker fitted in an emergency procedure, a severe dose of Covid mid year and
just a week ago suffered a “ seizure “. This necessitated an ambulance trip to
A & E and consequent driving ban and no alcohol until further notice. Apparently
the excesses over the years are finally catching up with me and I am being
forced to act like an eighty year old at last! This doesn’t come easily I can
assure you.
I am copying Stuart and Graham as they and some of the other chaps will
certainly remember me and I would like to pass on my regards and good wishes.
I still keep an eye open for the CRFC results.
I hope the golf day goes well and I have made a diary note to think of you
all on June 1st. Not just my old CRFC friends of the 1960s &1970s, but more
recent Windwhistle/ Cricket St Thomas golf chums. I have some delightful
memories of you all.
Kind regards and a happy and healthy 2023.
Gordon.
