Frank Martin – GANES from trial run of High /Low
handicap draw
On a cold
and blustery day with intermittent rain and hail storms, 26 Seniors turned out
for a Canadian Greensomes Medal competition. Numbers were slightly lower than
normal due to a very packed weeks competitions, matches and the Jurassic
Challenge held at Lyme Regis G.C. on Tuesday ………where we came a very creditable
3rd against some formidable opposition from other golf clubs in the
Somerset and Dorset area.
In the
popular Canadian Greensomes competition a trial draw was introduced based on
the amount of entrants on the day; a
High /Low handicap pairs draw was made , to try to eradicate any run away
winning pair being drawn under the normal card draw system. It seems this trial
system was almost correct, however the luck of the Seniors handicapping
official ( a certain F. Martin ) somehow still rose to the top, even with a
score of “ 9 “ on the 4th hole, when the winning pair missed out the
new temporary Tee, and proceeded to tee off on the old tee which now belongs to
the Ladies only. They realised their mistake and corrected it, however that was
then their third shot on that hole, and alas ended up with their “ 9 “. Their
playing partners of Diamond Des Denning and The Wizard Phil Hunt , also had to
re-tee from the correct tee.
