21 September 2016

Wednesday 21st September and a nice little Waltz
1,2,3 - 1,2,3 etc

What a pleasant little game, similar to Monday but continuing 1,2,3 hole by hole, so scores should have been similar, but were some way behind. Having 3 to count on 3rd hole was one big difference.

Weather looked a little doubtful but on the whole we got away with it, small flurry of rain but no damage....
.. unlike root crunchers that have ground down the stumps on 18th to sawdust which Bill Hilson is gradually stealing for his hamster, pocket by pocket..just like the Great Escape -but in reverse.

Nice Email from John Chance & Hannah who are on a World Cruise on a river boat around Birmingham and came across a nice little Boat called BIM
...
but never got invited aboard for a drink...

Captain and Vice are over at Taunton for a Match so we await their reports after a 6-match winning streak....
The results at Taunton and Pickeridge yesterday were :

Nick Hill and Keith Potter lost 3 and 1
Roger Stone and Ian Griffiths halved
Barrie Heath and Peter Spencer-Farr won 2 & 1
George Wallace and John MacOmish won 3 & 1
Mike Hone and Stuart Pope lost 3 & 2
John Wandless and Lyndsey Gage halved

Result 3 - 3

Home result earlier in the year was  3½ - 2½ to CST
Great Result Captain

Nice Royal Wave from Mike

So, for the report on today.10 early Birds today, including Alan Chance. They would have won today save for a scrappy 10th hole where a particularly perky Mike King & Co managed just a single point..but made up for it on 18th with a birdy from Gordon helping towards a 9-point haul.

Another 27 for the late Roll up, plus Ken Trussell and Bryan Frost who did the Rolling Stableford, along with Mr Whirly who scored 33, and 30.

In Third place, with a strong 6,7 finish, 7 points better than 4th place were Alan Davis, Stewart Forbes and Nick George, Stewart was 8 inches from Eagle on the 12th.

This time the Royal Wave was from Alan.

Alan had a moment of being 'Mr Grumpy' on the course as they closed up on the Team ahead, until we worked out there is a definite Yo-Yo effect in this format as the team playing '3 to count' temporarily lose ground on the team with just '1 to count' playing the very next hole.

But of course you can't keep class down for long as Paul England took charge of the 'Dream Team' to engineer a narrow win cutting Danny to Scratch next Monday !

I'm sure Maurice & Paul are stood in silent prayer

Farmer Bob was checking the cards and discovered 11 nice little ringed scores which earned the Team £1.80 for each one.

Usual Cuts enforced on 1st and 2nd.

I was out with Bob the Builder and Terry Hackling  who had not played with Bob before, so I challenged him to tell me Bob's handicap after a couple of holes. Bob had a great Tee-Shot and 2nd on 1st hole...then his 'borrowed' wedge put him into the hedge..whilst Terry bagged a nice 6 for 3 points. Bob needed only two strokes of his wands to claim a 2 on the 2nd, but fluffed a chip on the 3rd to make a 5...I've reached my decision said Terry, he's Off 15 !
 - but of course had to prove him wrong as he was rock steady off his meagre 10 handicap and built up around 39 points...

Friday sees a long awaited event, Nobby's Charity Haircut, which generally draws blood !
Back from his Holiday and raring to go..although the Golf may take a couple more rounds, looking at the score cards..
Chopped Mullett is off the Menu

Richard Hall has picked up the gauntlet to arrange a dual 'Fish&Chips' and 'Curry'  Night up at the Club, so watch out for more information and come up with your good Lady to say hello.

Bumped into another foursome on 6th and they had all just joined from Axe-Cliff on the 'New deal' and all looked like potential Seniors..although Bob the Builder told me off , saying "We can't handle any more' ..as we pass through 140 by my calculations !!!!

A good fun day and quite an enjoyable format. Thanks to Keith & Bob for running the show again.
