SENIORS OPEN (2) 7th September 2016
Fifty two teams contested a
three man Texas Scramble, two thirds of whom were visitors. All the visiting
teams I spoke to were very impressed with the club, the course, the catering
and the organisation of the event. For this we have to thank the committee for
their efforts, many of whom were at the club for 13 hours.
The last
score
returned was at 7:30 pm by which time, unfortunately, most of the prize winners
had left. Our thanks also go to Ruth Dowell and Barbara Shaw who registered all
players as they arrived, and entered all the scores into JP’s impressive leader
board system. Ruth and Barbara worked non-stop for 12 hours.

In addition we should
also thank Marie Aldridge, Jenny Hall and Rosemary Hill for running the raffle
which alone raised £585.00 for the Captain's Charity. And not forgetting Bim who
sat at the start for 7 hours making sure that everyone kept on schedule, many
thanks
The pin positions were
carefully thought out by Roger Stone, with 6 difficult, 6 easy and 6 moderate
positions. There was some criticism of the pin position on the 3rd,
but I have analysed the scores and the average score on this hole was 4.826.,
with 4 birdies.
The longest drive between the
ropes was a new innovation and introduced as a bit of fun. Two away teams
succeeded . Halfway House was very popular thanks to Mr Chance of Donyatt once more. However, to the nitty gritty as they say. Because there were twice as many away players as home players, the committee decided to award prizes to the first five away teams and three to the first home teams.
The away prizes were won by a
wider spread of teams than has been in the past. The first five teams came from
Minehead, Long Sutton, Bulberry Woods, Honiton (who were present to collect their
prize) and Wheathill. Uncollected away prizes will be handled by Liam who will
contact their respective Club’s Professional.

The winning home team was
Keith Branchflower, Keith Potter and Bill Hilson whose winning score of 56.83
was nearly 3 points ahead of the second placed team – Mick Aldridge, Neil
Critchley and Tony Stenhouse. Third were John Bloys, George Wallace and Gordon
Hughes. All three teams returned excellent scores of less than 60. Please
collect your prizes or negotiate an alternative with Liam as soon as possible.

..but sat there on 56....as rather confident little trio who were untouchable all day and we have to bow to them in reverence on this occasion !
Unfortunately the Captain was unable to carry out any meaningful presentation or 'Thank-You' as apart from Keith & Keith, everyone had gone home and not returned, which I know hacked off Bertie a little as he had worked his socks off for months on this one and we have nothing to send off to the Newspapers.
Roger, Des and Nick were also present, but no complete trios available.
NTP at the 9th was
the team of Tony Church, Malcolm Roy and Mike Banfield. NTP at the 16th
was the team of Alan Chance, Bob White and Stuart Pope. A bottle of wine awaits
all six.

Finally, thank you everyone
who took part, it was a very successful day.
The Staff, run by 'Skippy' as Simon is informally known, ran out 156 Meals to our Visitors just before another 60 arriuved at 19:00 from Crewkerne Hospital for a Dinner.
New Uniforms were on parade as Jackie & Steve returned from Holiday.
We have to Thank the Owners for clearing the decks of the new Conservatory to allow full use by all the Visitors, it was much appreciated.

..and of course the Raffle, which raised a very healthy chuck of change for charity thanks once more to your ongoing generosity.
