Medal 26th
September 2016
There were thirty starters in todays Medal. Weather
conditions deteriorated rapidly and many members abandoned their rounds after 4
or 5 holes. Eight hardy souls battled on
and completed their rounds, not before the competition was deemed a
non-qualifier and all those who competed will have their money returned either
in cash or to their Pro Shop or Bar accounts. My commiserations go to Mike Hone
who completed his round with a gross score of 85, net 69. Mike did not record a
score greater than 6 on any hole.
The two’s will be carried over to the next qualifier.
Whilst everyone was on the course enjoying themselves, your
Captain and Treasurer were trying to make sense of the entry list for next
weeks Cyder Cup. There are 48 entries for Mondays Greensomes, 46 entries for
Wednesday’s Foursomes and 46 for Friday’s Singles. Unfortunately two people
will be reserves for the Foursomes. For those of you who wish to know how the
draw is made :
Greensomes – all players are listed in handicap sequence.
Players are drawn one from the top half of the list and one from the bottom
half of the list. You will play matchplay format against the pair with whom you
are drawn to play.
Foursomes – from the same handicap sequence players are
drawn one from the top half of the list and one from the bottom half of the
list, whilst ensuring that :
1. the pairings are not the same as for the Greensomes;
2. you will play against different opponents from your
Greensomes opponents;
3. you continue to play for the Captain or vice Captain.
You will play matchplay format against the pair with whom
you are drawn.
Singles – from the same handicap sequence, you will play
matchplay against a player closest to your handicap. Matches will go out in
fours.
All matches will be played using Club Handicaps (Greensomes
and Foursomes ½ combined handicap – committee decision) from the yellow tees.
The lists will be posted on Wednesday. If you cannot play,
please inform the Pro Shop.
Please do not forget the Annual Dinner on the 4th
November. We are limited to 90, so it will be first come, first served. The
list will be posted later this week.
Recently I appealed
to members to take care with studs and cleats when on the Greens. Now that the
winter weather is upon us, please take extra care not to scrape your shoes
across the Greens.
Team for Teign Valley on Friday has been posted by Roger in Interclub Matches.
