Seniors Open 4BBB 6th July 2016
What a Day, 12 Hour Shift - from 07:00 to 19:00 and a day to be proud of our 'hard-core committee and some amazing Ladies that made the day run like clockwork from beginning to end.
I've never heard so many compliments about the Facilities, the Course or the organization. And well done for all those wonderful Raffle prizes as it got bigger by the minute and encouraged Golfers to splash some £400 towards the captain's Charity. Well done to Rosemary & Jenny for running that particular desk..I did get into trouble when a Quart Jug of 'Old Rosie' Cider appeared and I made a foolish remark to Rosemary about the name..ooops !
Anyway, back to the beginning...
Bert Robinson has been slaving all year to co-ordinate the entries as we ended up with about 29 Visiting and 26 Home Teams - some 110 Golfers. Nice numbers, but where were all our home players ?- less than 40% entered the comp, what did we do wrong ?
I know one guy, Dave Porter, wandered in and had no idea about the Open as was there for the Roll-Up !
Mick Aldridge had done all the Cards & Welcome letters and Alan Chance, Roger, Nick etc had been up Tuesday, to supply all those very welcome bananas and biscuits plus drinks by the 10th....so many involved all along the long road...and we have to do it all again on September 7th for the Texas Scramble.
Entry Fee, then Enter 2's then choose your meal
Steak & Ale Pie
Ham Egg & Chips
Smoked Salmon & Prawn Salad
Spinach, Brie & Mushroom Strudel.
the Steak & Ale Pie was to die for...
The Raffle Table had to be extended twice.
Old Rosie can be seen at the front.
A few tried it on with the Organiser....
See Tickets unclaimed on Right.
Captain was in trouble early on as he tried to wing it with odd books of tickets we had in filing cabinet, but Old Rosie Rosemary and Jenny had nearly run out when Mick Aldridge arrived with fresh supplies.
Note for Future - need 4 new books for September 7th. Tesco preferred.
What a Star team we had on the Computer with Hannah & Ellie who seemed to have great fun working together. Found around 20 incorrect totals and guess what, Computer was right every time, but well done to everyone for accepting their explanations, it sure helps having Ladies doing the talking, the Men just give in and accept it.
They were there until the last card came in at 17:47 and we can't thank them enough.
Tee Times from 08:30 right through to 13:10 and thanks to Bim & Helen for all their work keeping it going all day as marshalls.
Course was in great condition and drew much praise. Weather was PURFIKK !
Keith was in quite early with his 41 and sat there for hours seeing himself and Billy slip down the board.
Brian Anderson ended up with Pete who was sterling in his Ball-Spotting duties, but I don't thin we had any others offer to carry out this work.
So 4th on 41 for these two whose back 9 of 21 kept them ahead of keith
Club Captain & Handicap Secretary managed a better back 6 to creep ahead of 4th place to take 3rd in another 41 Points
Hot favourites & low handicappers Alan and Danny got 1 extra point to take 2nd place but there front 9 of 23 was the wrong way round to take the win today.
.remember you can click on these pictures and make them larger....
So with 42 points and a back 9 of 21, Mr Alan Chance and Mr Stuart Pope were declared Seniors Open Champions for 2016..but they at least had smart jackets for the presentation.

Frank Martin/Mike Hone and Keith Potter / John Bloys had the only 2's for the Home teams.
John Bloys had NTP on the 16th, Tony Stenhous had Nearest Line on 5th and mike hone had NTP on the 9th.
Away team Winners were from Taunton & Pickeridge with a stunning 45 points. Full totals listed below.

There was a price to pay for the Club for all the functions going on as they 'popped' the power cable over the weekend, hence the Emergency generator..but guess what ? - the fault was..right under the Biomas Boiler House, so they are having to run a new Power cable right around the back.
Electricians have also built and installed to Blower machine outside the Men's Locker Room in its own little brick-built housing..but I'm not sure if the power is quite on yet.
