Canadian Greensomes 29th  June 2016

Well done to everyone who completed the round on a less than summery day. Most played in fairly constant drizzle and blustery wind. Conditions improved at the very end of the round and it is noteworthy that the first 4 pairs finished the final three holes in 11,12,13 and 15 shots respectively, proving that you have to keep it going for 18 holes.

Bit tricky at start as many saw the rain & decided against it, others just never appeared.

Ted had to shuffle around and ended up with Mick as new partnerships were formed on the day.  At least 7 pairings were made-up on the day due to cancellations as 'Heavy Rain was forecast, but never quite came.

Farmer Bob & Nobby were in in under 3 Hours and led for a while on 71.They were joined on the course by Pearce & Beale, another enforced 2-ball.

Well done to all those teams letting the 2-balls through to gain over 90 minutes on the final teams..just 2 grumpy people, but thankfully common manners prevailed.

After another hour and just a couple of teams to come, with the Ladies arriving, the gutter press insisted on early winners pictures as they were 'on the clock' - so it seemed safe to capture Danny & Clive who had carded a 70.

..but just as Farmer Bob was about to wrap...the noise level escalated and we all knew what was coming....

A very good win for Terry Rutherford and Stuart Pope who were more than 3 clear shots of the runners up, Danny Dowell and Clive Fisk. I understand that Terry and Stuart finished so far behind everyone else that the “winners” photo had already been taken. It was obviously worth waiting for the better weather.

Then it was through to the Birthday Party, to which everyone had been invited ( how brave).
Nick  had booked for 50 and amazingly he ended up with just about that many and of course Nick and Rosemary were delighted that so many Ladies joined us.

Roger presented Nick with a Signed Card from all the Seniors.

I think Nick had planned a nice sit down start and then a formal 'opening of the Buffet' ceremony, but as soon as we were summonsed to the Dining Room, the plates were being filled and the delicious fare was under attack. It was a splendid Buffet, accompanied by jugs of Pimms prepared by Rosemary and flavoured with hand-picked 'chocolate mint' from her own herbarium. Bottles of bubbly were cracked later on for the toast. There was enough food for another 20 and what a splendid gesture by a lovely couple.

......and there's a story about the Credit Card.....

Rosemary and I would like to thank everyone for your good wishes, cards and presents at the party afterwards which we thought was a great success with some really good buffet food. I particularly appreciated John’s speech about the celebrities born in 1946. And finally, many thanks for the card signed by members.

Thanks to all those that came forward to form teams for the Midsummer Madness at 05:30 on Saturday.
A-Team     Bob Barrow, Mike Dawson, Pete Spencer-Farr & John Pearce
B-Team     Nobby Hodder (Captain), Bryan Frost ( Costume co-ordinator), Richard Hall ( Liquid Catering)and Billy Hilson (Navigation)

Congratulations to Andy & Lucille Beale who were out for a romantic meal at the Cotley last night celebrating 41 years, when they were joined by Richard & Jenny Hall. Richard had taken up Potty Frank's weekend golfing trip to Stover and Teignmouth and returned broke & starving.

Update on Richard's Trip:-
Don't understand how he could have returned starving after what he put away for breakfast !!  He might have been lighter in pocket after buying the beer, having lost both days with Quinny to Phil and Ray.  Couple of good days though, courtesy of the brewery.
