Wednesday 14th September

Can you believe the weather we had yesterday ?- over an inch of rain and the lightening had Mick Aldridge descending his ladder toute-de-suite. Dreadful damage up at the course...completely washed away three of my favourite trees on the 18th !!

Bit of sad news as it was reported that our favourite German, Reiner Winkler was up at the course yesterday to leave a farewell message, saying he had terminal cancer and had 30 days to live..then just left.  Knowing Reiner, he has probably miscounted !
..Sorry, cheap joke but Reiner was always happy to laugh at himself and gave back as good as he got. We'll get a card going for him.
Also heard that Ted has gone backwards a little and not out of the woods yet.

Better news on Ray Gudge from Malcolm:-
Ray had his op for a pacemaker on Tuesday and informs me he is bloody but unbowed
and hopes to be back playing golf in a few weeks.

So, a funny start today as once again we were without our leaders and quite a few other leading characters.
We estimate Danny, Chris, Richard, Maurice etc are all at Knighton Heath for their Seniors Open. Roger and co are down in Plymouth.

After the rain of Tuesday as expected there was a heavy mist that threatened to thicken and Greenkeepers had left 17th on un mowed Temporary and 18th reduced to 170 Yards, so Pro Shop saw no point in having individual on Computer as scoring would be invalid / skewed - as shown by 5 birdies being racked up on 18th.. so the executive decision was taken to modify it to a 2 from 3 .

Some great Individual scores  by Ian Griffiths, Bob Barrow, Bryan Frost, Martin Bargery and the opposite from Myself and a few others as the hot balmy weather seemed to weary everyone out.

There were some exemplary cards written today, by the likes of Andy Beale, Phil Dewar etc but unfortunately one card was missing some vital information...

..and for the life of me I don't know how you can walk around the Golf Course and calculate points for 3 people without handicaps ! (we'll let you off with the wrong date)

Tons of birdies including 18th which we considered ignoring as it was 120 yards short, but treasurer got one so he wouldn't let us - so they are worth just 50p each.

Winners in no doubt today as only team to hit over 80. Decided not to implement handicap cuts as it was played off Club and a bit of a noddy course.

We played with John  Twose today, landlord of the Swan at Merriott..or at least he was until the Pub was shut down on Monday and that may be it !

Can't think of anything else to write...so I won't...
